Position Summary
The HVAC Service Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the daily operations of the service department and new construction installation projects. This individual will manage service technicians and subcontractors, drive performance metrics, ensure operational efficiency, and maintain an exceptional customer experience.
This is a leadership role for someone who understands both HVAC technical excellence and business performance. The ideal candidate is structured, accountable, growth-oriented, and confident in leading high-performing teams.
Core Responsibilities
🔹 Leadership & Team Development
* Lead, mentor, and manage HVAC service technicians
* Conduct ride-alongs, training sessions, and performance evaluations
* Develop technicians’ technical skills and customer communication
* Provide advanced technical guidance on complex system diagnostics
* Enforce company processes, standards, and safety policies
* Assist in hiring, onboarding, and corrective action when necessary
* Build a culture of accountability, professionalism, and pride in workmanship
🔹 Operations Management
* Oversee daily service scheduling and dispatch coordination
* Monitor and manage KPIs including revenue per technician, average ticket, closing rate, callbacks, and labor efficiency
* Ensure jobs are completed efficiently, profitably, and to company standards
* Manage parts ordering, truck stock, and inventory control
* Reduce warranty callbacks through quality assurance oversight
* Improve workflow processes for scalability and growth
🔹 New Construction & Installation Management
* Oversee HVAC installation operations for new construction projects
* Monitor and manage subcontractors and service technicians performing system installations
* Develop and review project estimates, prepare bids, and ensure accurate job costing
* Source equipment, materials, and vendors to maintain profitability and quality standards
* Coordinate with builders, general contractors, and trade partners to meet project timelines
* Ensure compliance with local codes, safety regulations, and manufacturer specifications
* Monitor installation quality and reduce rework, delays, and cost overruns
* Track project profitability and report performance metrics to ownership
🔹 Technical Oversight
* Provide leadership and technical direction on:
* Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems
* Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) systems
* High-efficiency inverter-driven equipment
* Multi-zone ductless systems
* Support troubleshooting of complex commercial and specialty installations
* Stay current with manufacturer updates and evolving technologies
🔹 Customer Experience
* Lead the team in delivering consistent five-star experiences rooted in integrity, transparency, and doing what’s right for the customer
* Handle escalated customer concerns professionally and promptly
* Ensure clear communication between field technicians and office staff
* Support technicians in providing honest recommendations and clear options to customers
🔹 Financial & Department Performance
* Drive service department revenue and profitability
* Track performance metrics and present weekly reports to ownership
* Monitor labor margins and departmental efficiency
* Identify growth opportunities and implement performance strategies
* Support budgeting and forecasting initiatives
Qualifications
* 5+ years of HVAC field experience
* 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role
* Strong knowledge of residential and light commercial HVAC systems
* Demonstrated experience with VRF and VRV systems (installation, diagnostics, and service)
* Experience with inverter-driven and ductless technologies preferred
* Refrigeration experience is a plus
* Proven ability to manage KPIs and drive revenue growth
* Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
* Experience with CRM systems (ServiceTitan preferred)
* Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
