HVAC Mechanic
MaineHealth – Maine Medical Center
Portland, ME
Full Time – Flexible
This role can support four 10 hour days
We will support with classes and training to assist you in obtaining your HP Boiler Operator license.
Summary
The HVAC Mechnaic installs, inspects, tests, troubleshoots and repairs all heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment in the operation of the hospital. Serves as primary contact person between Engineering and other hospital departments on evenings, nights and weekends. Maintains the Boiler room functions.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: High school education or equivalent preferred. Must be able to read and follow written and oral procedures, as well as some basic technical training in heating and ventilation. Knowledge of the use and care of tools, safety practices, blueprint reading as well as mathematics, mechanical drawings, electricity, applied physics, and air-conditioning and refrigeration theory at a level generally acquired through completion of a two year (post secondary) formal apprenticeship training program.
- License/Certifications: A State of Maine Journeyman’s Oil Burner license preferred and State of Maine Boilers Operator’s License required within first year of employment.
- Experience: Knowledge of installation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems at a level generally acquired during two to three years on-the-job training and experience. A comprehensive understanding of boilers, burners, pumps, chillers, HVAC and other related equipment, at a level generally acquired through two to three years on-the-job training and experience.
- Must have color vision, be able to spend hours on feet, bending, lifting and other motor skills.
- Analytical ability required in order to detect, diagnose and repair defective or faulty heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. Must determine appropriate methods and proper sequence of work as well as tools, equipment and materials required.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to seventy-five percent of work time.
- Must have a complete knowledge of piping systems, air, medical gas, water, fire protection, steam and all other utilities and their bypass systems.
