The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s modern and contemporary art program is expanding to include a new series of exhibitions, performances, artist commissions, residencies, and educational initiatives in the landmark building designed by Marcel Breuer on Madison Avenue and 75th Street. Opening to the public on March 10, 2016, The Met Breuer will provide additional space for the public to explore the art of the 20th and 21st centuries through the global breadth and historical reach of the Met’s unparalleled collection. General Description:
The Maintainer is responsible for general operation, repair and maintenance of all systems and equipment at The Breuer Building. These responsibilities include but are not limited to the chiller plant, cooling towers, pumps, HVAC equipment, plumbing systems, electrical, lighting, motors and motor controls, operation of the BMS, and any other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
• Performs highly responsible independent work under general supervision in the operation, maintenance and repair of all subject systems and equipment
• Monitors and maintains environmental conditions in all Museum spaces
• Chiller plant operation and maintenance including cooling towers and pumps
• Air handling systems operation, repair and maintenance
• Heating system operation, repair and maintenance including steam and condensate equipment
• Automatic temperature control system operation, repair and maintenance
• Installation and maintenance of electrical switches, breakers, panels, receptacles, lighting fixtures, motors and controls
• Pipe bending and installation of EMT, conduit, wire mold and BX
• Maintaining the various lighting systems throughout the Museum, such as: fluorescent, incandescent, low voltage, track lighting, and dimming systems.
• Maintain inventory of bulbs, fixtures, and other supplies needed
• Repair and maintenance of plumbing and sanitary systems
• Makes routine examination of the need for repairs and maintenance
• Respond to building emergencies
• Prepares and maintains records on work performed and materials used
• Performs related work as required by the Museum including work on special projects
• Maintain and clean mechanical and electrical rooms, service rooms, chiller room and work shops
• Other related duties

Requirements and Qualifications:
Experience and Skills:
• Valid New York City Fire Department Refrigeration Operator’s License
• Minimum two years’ experience in subject museum maintenance work or equivalent
• Minimum two years’ experience with centrifugal chillers and associated mechanical and electrical equipment
• Working knowledge of BMS systems and HVAC controls
• Specialized skill as a mechanic
• Knowledge of and experience with chiller, HVAC and plumbing equipment and systems
• Knowledge of and experience with electrical and lighting equipment and systems
• Working knowledge of BMS systems and HVAC controls
• Knowledge of and experience with hand and power tools
• Work safely on ladders and lifts and have the ability to work in high places, and have the ability to push/pull/lift equipment and materials (45-60 lbs.)

Knowledge and Education:
• Valid New York City Fire Department Refrigeration Operator’s License
• College degree preferred / technical curriculum
• High school or trade school diploma or GED
