Job Overview:

The HVAC Service Technician performs service calls as dispatched by their Manager and/or Service Coordinator. Service calls are defined as all work performed on and/all HVAC mechanical system equipment, chillers, burners (gas, oil, methane, propane and other), boiler controls, feedwater units, pumps, valves, softeners and all related system equipment and components.

The HVAC Service Technician will work on HVAC related projects including, but not limited to: HVAC and boiler room equipment installations, burner installations, and controls installations. Additionally, the position may be required to assist with any boiler, HVAC, or other service.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform field service including but not limited to: Boiler/Burner/HVAC installations, repair, service, and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain truck inventory to prevent unneeded trips for parts and ensure accuracy of inventory and billing.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of company service vehicle. Coordinate with Warehouse/Shop Services to maintain mechanical condition of company vehicle by scheduling required maintenance and repairs.
  • Fill out and turn in all paperwork in a timely manner. This includes:
    • Daily time reporting
    • Service Reports
    • Material Check Out / In
    • Daily Job Hazard Analysis
    • Near Miss Reports
    • Vacation/Sick/Time-Off requests
    • Other reporting, as required.
  • Assist in identifying, organizing, and coordinating location workload, including scheduling and prioritizing of labor and materials. Work to meet committed completion schedules and profitability.
  • Support company sales efforts including, but not limited to:
    • Assist Sales in defining the scope of labor, materials, and equipment for repairs or replacements of equipment.
    • Note additional repairs or suggested improvements on service report for Sales to follow up.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with customers, product/equipment representatives and other third party vendors.
  • Assist in fielding and resolving customer complaints or concerns.
  • Be available to attend training programs, schools, seminars, etc. as requested by management.
  • Maintain all appropriate state licenses including Continuing Education Classes/Credits.
  • Manage and lead the on-site efforts of employees and sub-contractors in the safe, timely and efficient progress of work when assigned in a site supervisory role.
  • Provide on-going training to other company team members and junior employees.
  • Comply with all Rasmussen Mechanical Services Policies in the employee handbook, safety manual and customer site specific policies.
  • Work with other Departments and Divisions, as needed.
  • Out of town, weekend, holiday, after hours work may be required. Will be on a rotating On Call Schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience:

  • Product/Process knowledge in the following areas:
    • Air handlers, chillers, rooftops, heat pumps, cooling towers, mini-splits and other HVAC equipment.
    • Burners and Gas Train components
    • Hydronic and steam boilers, boiler controls, hydronic and steam system components.
    • Electrical components, including: motors, solenoids, relays, switches, etc.
    • Mechanical fluid system components
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of documentable mechanical/electrical troubleshooting.

Skills:

  • Sound mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, extraverted, tactful, organized, results and goal-oriented professional.
  • Driven by a desire to satisfy customers and provide a high level of customer service.
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of office products, equipment, and procedures.
  • Great “people skills” to work closely with management, sales, purchasing, and other field personnel within the Company; as well as with vendors, customers, subcontractors, etc. outside the Company.
  • A desire to continually learn new methods; accept, adopt, and apply new technology from internal or external resources and continually strive to identify safer and more efficient ways to perform existing processes.
  • Challenge the “status quo” and motivate other team members, openly taking into account the ideas and suggestions of others and incorporating constructive suggestions into practice.

Education/Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalence.
  • Professional and industry-specific certifications and licenses including:
    • Universal Refrigerant Certification

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. regularly and 75-80 lbs. occasionally.
  • Type / hear / see / speak English clearly.
  • Must be able to read / write / spell / calculate.
  • Must be able to understand and follow written instructions, communicate effectively orally and written, and must be able to listen effectively.
  • Must possess prioritization / organizational / multitasking / stress management skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
